Summer Reading Options
Our reading intervention programs are typically not grade-based but skill-based. So when choosing an approach, keep in mind the reading goals. By training skills, grade levels increase or are maintained depending on goals. There is an evaluation process for the two of the various levels so that we use the appropriate materials. The pre-evaluation process is a separate charge, however, the post-evaluation is included in the programming. Reading 101 – This 23 session plus post-evaluation and consult provides students training in phoneme segmentation and/or blending, auditory processing, and code knowledge (how sounds and letters relate). As a result, your child will be able to decode and encode words and sentences more accurately and automatically which helps develop confidence regarding reading. Parents are encouraged to attend the first half of each session to learn how to better support and encourage their child’s progress. Customized schedules are available. The 24th session is the post-evaluation and consult of progress and next steps if any are recommended.
Reading 201 – This 17 session program plus post-evaluation and consult provides students who struggle with fluency the opportunity to practice their decoding and encoding skills, unlock the English written code to unusual vowel patterns and understand the overlap of the English written code. As a result, students improve their oral reading skills while learning how to manage multi-syllable words.
Reading 301 - This 12-session plus post consult trains students how to organize their thoughts on paper while increasing comprehension. It is an introductory course to comprehension via the writing process. Students who struggle with comprehension learn the specific practice of using a key-word outline to manage the meaning of words and paragraphs. The final session is a consultation to measure outcomes and
provide a next step action plan if necessary.
