Reading Screenings @ The Thinking Center
We are interested in why a student is having reading difficulties. We also like to rule out issues. Most issues deal with phonemic awareness, auditory processing and code knowledge - what someone knows about how the English language works automatically. We do discuss dyslexia, however, we are not interested in labeling a student - we are interested in getting the student to read.

Our Reading Screening consists of the following which allow us to cross-check skills:
  • Woodcock Johnson Reading Components
  • CTOPP (Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing)
  • Revised Rosner
  • DTLA (Detroit Test of Learning Aptitude - Visual Processing, Auditory Processing, Processing Speed)
  • Interview (usually with Parents, Grandparents, CareGivers)
  • Oral Reading Placement Test

There are other issues to think about when discussing reading struggles. For example, is tracking easy or hard for a student? Is the student light sensitive? How easy do the eyes converge or diverge?  Our reading screening combined with the consultation allows us to work together to create a recommendation of intervention.

A Typical Reading Screening (1 hour Testing + 1 Hour Consult) = $250
Reading Screening W/O Consult = $150

There are 10 levels to becoming an automatic reader. We teach & train all of them at The Thinking Center. Click the picture to read about them.
